I am 18 yrs old and I love to Crochet??

Does anyone else my age love to crochet? Knit? Why do people think it is somthing an old lady should do.... but they love the finished product??? I have made hats, scarves, slippers, purses, bags.... If you crochet... when did you learn how to?

I am 18 yrs old and I love to Crochet??
I absolutely love to crochet. I learned when I was about 12, but I didn't seriously pick it back up until I was about 18. I'm always learning and it's a great stress reliever at least for me.

I guess the typical "old lady knitting" stereotype is why people make fun of you for doing it. Most of the time you don't see younger people knitting/crocheting. I've been made fun for it too, but as soon as I finish what I'm making and show someone, they absolutely love it. Don't let it get to you, just remember that's one thing you can do that they can't. :D
Reply:Don't worry about what others say, just have fun doing what gives you pleasure...crocheting is a wonderful hobby...and it's not your grandmother's crochet anymore...look at all the wonderful things that you can make...have fun with it! Report It

Reply:My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was only nine, and I got pretty good at it. I lost interest though and haven't done it in years. I may pick it back up again someday.
Reply:I think it's great. Crocheting is becoming a lost art. I'm sure your friends do love what you make.

I strarted crocheting when I was about 15. When I had kids, it was a lot of fun to make them homemade blankets.

When you are 18, you think a lot about what your friends think, but in a few years, no one will think anything about it.

They may even wish they had learned, and ask you to show them how.
Reply:I learned to crochet at about age 15 I would say. Now I am WAAY older than that. Even my children are older than that..lol! My grandmother taught me and she had me learn by doing edgings on pillow cases with cotton thread. After that using yarn was a snap! I think it's all coming back into style to knit and/or crochet nowadays anyway. Have you noticed all the celebrities who are into it? They really are. I belong to a charity group on line , there are tons of them, and we knit, crochet or sew for needy babies. Crocheting is fun and productive. Don't let anyone tell you any different.
Reply:I was taught how to crochet when I was probably 14 by my mom but I've forgotten. Recently I have picked up knitting. I love knitting scarves, and currently I'm trying to tackle a blanket. I don't understand why it's thought of as an old lady thing, I think it's fun and I always love how it turns out.
Reply:I got my daughters fifteen and seventeen interested in crochet, now they are better than me. It's not an old lady, it's a lost art.
Reply:i learned to crochet at 8 years old. i learned how to knit at 24. i do them both...often. i'm 26.

people think it's silly, but i love doing them!
Reply:I learned to crochet when I was 9 years old. I was very hyperactive ( now days they call it ADHD) my mom figured out that if my hands were busy I was calm...very smart mom! Most of my friends were impressed that I could create things and I taught a few of them. I crochet when I am reading, watching TV, I even found that if I crochet at my boys sporting events it kept me from yelling at the referees! I am still crocheting and teaching now, many years later. Keep it up and when you are my age you will be an expert..if you are not already!
Reply:i am 15 and i like to crochet but i had to cuz i was in a juvenile prison 4 3 years
Reply:i mean,im an almost 14 year old guy (my birthdays in august) and I LOVE TO KNIT knitting is like everything 2 me(thats not all I do i mean I do gymnastics also)ive knit EVERYTHING(well almost) from scarves 2 sweaters and I klearned 2 knit from my grandma when I was about 8.
Reply:Yep, I crochet and knit :) and I'm 15. I'm pretty bad at crochetting but that doesn't stop me. I learned when I was like 13 or 14. It's great at relieving stress though.
Reply:My mom taught me to knit when I was a little girl. When I was a teenager, I learned to crochet and taught my mom. I've been doing it ever since and I'm 48 now. Ignore everyone. They just don't understand the satisfaction you get when you can make something beautiful from a ball of yarn.
Reply:I started crocheting at 18 also. I worked for an Insurance Company which was located in a very busy city. If you wanted to find a decent parking place you had to get to work

about 1 1/2 hours before work started. I used to watch a group of women crocheting and chatting and finally got up enough nerve to ask if they would teach me. I have been crocheting for over 30 years now and it has been my stress reliever, my therapy, and my passion. For the most part I now crochet for Charity which I really love to do. It feels so

good to know that my talent is used to help other people.

Keep crocheting no matter what people may think. I really

am glad to hear that you love to crochet and are doing lots

of things with it. Good Luck and Happy Crocheting!!!
Reply:I learned to crochet when I was about 10 y.o. a girlfriend of mine taught me. Eventually, I learned to read patterns but, my greatest thrill was when I found the graphs in Magic Crochet and Decorative Crochet.. they are out of print now, but old copies can still be found through e-bay. I make doilies, tablecloths.. won a blue ribbon on one at the Fair... Currently, I am one of the old ladies you refer to...lol... Age just seemed to come along when I wasn't looking..hmmmm.... I admire you for your love of crochet especially at such a young age.. you are rare. I agree, people do love the finished product...
Reply:I'm 23 and I love to crochet too. The only reason anyone thanks it's an old lady thing is because most people our age can't sit still long enough to learn how to do it and of course it's not electrical and can't be used to play games or talk to someone. I have several cousin that also crochet so your not alone.
Reply:I learned to crochet when I was 7, I am now 45. At one time it was scoffed at by feminist as not worth doing , it was too old fashioned and to much like work,
Reply:The people who think it is old fashioned did not catch it getting hip.

Now it is something young people do.

I have always crocheted since I learned it at age 10, but it has to compete with many other crafts, so I do not always to it as often as I would like.
